Installing Windows 7, check it out

by frenchsquared on Dec.22, 2008, under Windows

Windows & install screen

Windows & install screen

Windows 7 was rather simple and relatively fast to install.

The Installation is basically the same as Vista, only faster.

Traditional Windows Acceptance Screen

Windows 7 has the normal screen requesting that you accept Microsoft’s Terms.
One thing missing is the list of versions.
I would bet this is just because this is a pre-beta build.

Loading Process

Normal loading process.

Here Windows 7 asks for a user name

This is new, Windows 7 is requiring a user name.

Wireless settings

Wireless settings

This is new to me. Windows 7 noticed my wireless card
and is asking to join a network.

Love the Beta fish, Im guessing Microsoft is
getting ready for a Beta Release.

And Windows 7 is up and running.
I am currently testing out the new task bar and installing applications.
I will post picks and my thoughts ASAP.

Windows 7, first review

by frenchsquared on Dec.21, 2008, under Windows

So, I just finished the instal of windows 7 build 6956.
Yes it has the new task bar.

First off I must say I am impressed.
I am currently working on initial setup and installing application.
I can tell you that it is faster the Vista 32 bit or 64bit.
It loads faster, installs fast and runs faster.

I will post screen shots and more info ASAP.
I just hope MS doesnt screw up this build.
I remember Vista RC 1 was better then Vista sp1

Hackintosh, my next build

by frenchsquared on Dec.18, 2008, under Mac

So, I have decided to build another desktop.
This time the plan is to build a quad boot machine.
The dual and triple boots have been done. Plus I need
a separate boot for testing OS.

The plan is to install Vista 64 / OS X / Fedora / Windows 7
I think I am going to try an make Fedora my primary OS.
I love the idea of having a way to run all 4 OS’s at the same time.

I will make a grub boot loader and have native boots for
all 4 OS. My goal is to also create a virtual boot for each of the os
from within linux, 8gb of ram..

So, I bought this stuff:

Core 2 Duo E8500

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P

GeForce 8400 GS 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16

OCZ Reaper HPC 8GB (4 x 2GB)

For those who do not know I already have OS X running on my Gateway M-6824
However, I haven’t been able to get the ATI Graphics working correctly. It is
running well enough that I am hooked on the Hackintosh.

Sorry, mac I have no intention of switching. I am a true windows fan, but Linux
has been catching my attention. I only want OS X for testing purposes.
Everyone should know that I am an IT Administrator and I need OS X to
test apps before installing. There is no way Im spending 3G’s for a testing machine.

Stay tuned in, I plan on posting pict’s of the entire build.

iFart, Available Now!!!

by frenchsquared on Dec.13, 2008, under Mac

iFart is a Digital Sound Machine and entertainment system which brings endless laughs and enjoyment to its users. But iFart is much more than that. iFart has more utility, usefulness and functionality than many other iPhone apps out there.

iFart can be used as a security system to protect your iPhone. You can set up time delayed bombs that will explode after you have left the room and of course there is the simple farts now button that will immediately create the fowl sounds so many people seem to love.

So, pull out that iPhone and load up the ap store.

How to Install a Wordpress Theme!

by frenchsquared on Dec.01, 2008, under Wordpress

Hopefully, everyone has their Wordpress blog installed. To install a new theme you must first pick the new theme. I recommend staying within themes found on the Wordpress site, but you can find Wordpress themes all over the web. Go to http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/ to find you newest Wordpress them. When looking for a theme it isn’t just about design. Some themes have different capabilities. Remember not all themes work with sidebar widgets. These simply means that you may have to experiment with a few themes before you find the one that is just right for you.

Once you find you theme you will need to download the theme to your computer. Simply click on the large red button that says Download. The file you download should be a .zip file, Which is just a way to compress the files so they download easier. Once the file is download you will need to double click on the file to extract or unexpanded it. You will be prompted to specify where you want the extracted files. I would simply extract them to your desktop so that you can easily find them.

Now, that the files are extracted you need to connect to your server. I covered using Filezilla a few issues ago. So if you need to pull at that old issue and refress your seldf on connecting to your server. Once connected you need to upload the theme file you downloaded to a specific folder on your server.
Using Filezilla navigate to /yoursite/wp-content/themes. You MUST upload the complete them folder to this location or the theme will not work. Once the them is uploaded you can close out of Filezilla and return to www.yoursite.com/wp-admin. Click on the Design Tab, then Themes and you should see you new them as an option to install. Simple click on the theme and then look at the top right corner and you will see activate theme. Click activate them and your are finished. You new them should be installed and working. If the them wasn’t available in the Design \ Themes tab then it wasn’t uploaded to your server correctly. I would double check everything and try uploading again.
